Archbishop Blesses St Bernadette's New Dementia Unit

20 Nov 09

His Grace, Archbishop Denis Hart DD, blessed the new 15-bed unit providing specialised care for seniors with dementia at St Bernadette's Aged Care Facility, Sunshine North, on 20 November 2009. Local MP for Maribyrnong and Parliamentary Secretary for People with Disabiities, Bill Shorten, also participated at the event and reiterated the Commonwealth's commitment to quality aged care services.

The new special purpose unit has been designed to provide the best physical, social and care environment to promote the wellbeing of residents with dementia and to support their carers. The prompt achievement of full occupancy has demonstrated that we are meeting a genuine need in the western suburbs for specialised services for people with dementia and their carers.

In $4.9m project also included a major refurbishment to improve the communal and staff amenities at the facility.

We wish to thank to all those who contributed to the successful development of this service.
